Plaster masks

Deutsch

What you need:

plaster bandages,

water,

skin cream with oil,

cleansing tissues or other,

covering paint,

brush,

old pair of scissors,

old dish,

tarpaulin,

clear coat,

beads,

feathers,

other things you want to use for decorating the plaster masks

To create plaster masks you need to be two persons.

The first person creates the mask on the face of the second person.
Apply a thick coating of skin cream onto the face of the person on which the mask is created. Don't forget the hairline (forehead, eyebrows, beard). You can also cover these parts with small pieces of cleansing tissue.

Decide what kind of mask you want to create: only around the eyes, whole face, with holes for the eyes or not, and so on.

Meanwhile, the other person can cut the plaster bandages into small stripes.

Fill the dish with water.

Cover the work surface with tarpaulin (table, chair, floor, person on which mask is created). This will make the cleaning afterwards much easier. If the person is lying on the floor, it is enough to cover the floor with tarpaulin.

So, either the person who gets the masks seats him/herself onto a chair or makes him/herself comfortable on the floor. The second person dips the plaster stripes into the water and places them onto the face in several layers. The plaster can be easily spread on the face. Thus, you can exactly reproduce the outlines of the face.
If you create a mask that covers the whole face, leave out the nostrils so that the other person can still breathe.

The mask should consist of about three or four layers of plaster stripes to make it stable. When you have applied enough layers of plaster, you'll have to wait for some minutes until the plaster has started to dry.

To remove the mask from the face, the person under the mask has to move his or her face. As the face is creamed, the mask should easily come off.

Remove last bits of plaster and cream with soap and water.
Allow the mask to harden for about a day before you work on it further.
When the mask is dry, you can paint it, stick items onto it, cut it into a special shape, and so on.

When you have painted the mask, let it dry again. Then apply a layer of clear coat to fix the colours. If you want to stick some beads or feathers onto it as well, paint the mask first, then apply a layer of clear coat, and finally glue the items onto it.

Of course you can also perpetuate other parts of the body in plaster. Many people like plaster hands. But before you start, remember to apply a coating of cream onto your hands too.
