Animals

Simple animals are always modelled according to the same pattern. You start (at the tied-off end) with the snout, then you form ears, neck, forelegs, body, and hind legs. What remains of the balloon will become the tail. Remember this pattern so that you always know which part of the animal you are modelling. Leave one or two inches of the balloon uninflated so that the air has some space to go when you twist the balloon.

Take the balloon into both hands...

... and create a bubble.

This will be the snout of your animal. Keep hold of this bubble and create another one. This will be the first ear. Keep hold of this bubble as well.

Create a third bubble that is as big as the second one. This will be the second ear. Bend the first two bubbles over the third one and twist the first and the third twist together.

Now you can let go of the balloon.
Go on in the same way as described above. Create one bubble (neck), then another one (first foreleg),...

... and a third one that is as big as the second bubble (second foreleg). Twist the first and the third twist together. Let go of the balloon...

... and start again. Create one bubble (body), another one (first hind leg)...

and a third one in the size of the second (second hind leg).

Twist the first and the third twist together, too. The rest is the tail.

You'll get different animals if you vary the length of ears, neck, or legs.

When you have got a feeling for the balloons after a time,

you can think of other shapes and figures, too.

You can buy books with ideas for shapes as well.

Enjoy practising!
