Belly cast clock

Deutsch

What you need:

plaster cast,

paint (e.g. poster paint),

clear coat,

brush,

pair of compasses,

pencil,

clockwork with long screw thread,

drill

Using the compasses, draw a circle (the clock) onto the plaster cast.

Draw lines or numbers into the circle.

Draw further motifs onto the plaster cast with a pencil.

Colour the motifs and let them dry.

Drill a hole into the middle of the circle.

The clockwork should fit through the hole.

As the cast is rounded, the clockwork will not fit tightly.

Thus, you need a clockwork with a very long screw thread.

Apply a layer of clear coat onto the plaster cast.
Fit in the clockwork and screw it tight. Then fasten the hands.

Tips:

You can buy clockworks in electronics shops.

There you find a large variety of clockworks.

You can also have a look at your local clockmaker,

in craft shops or on the internet (e.g. ebay).

Compare several clockworks or ask your local retailer and choose the clockwork with the longest screw thread. As an alternative, you can also remove clockworks from old or cheap clocks.

If you really can't find a clockwork with a long screw thread, try this: Before you make the plaster cast, place a small, thin slat wrapped in film onto the belly. When you now make the plaster cast, you'll get an even place onto which you can easily apply the clockwork.
