Casting on

Deutsch

What you need:

wool,

knitting needles

Before you actually start knitting,

you'll have to get some stitches onto the needle.

This process is called casting on,

that means that you pick up the stitches on the needle.
Place the yarn between your index and middle finger.

Pull the yarn end to the front (between thumb and index finger).

Wind the yarn around your thumb one time.

Take both needles together and put them through the loop between thumb and index finger.

Twist your palm slightly downwards and put the needles through the right loop between thumb and index finger.

Twist your palm back again and pull the yarn (the second loop)

 through the first loop.

Tighten the loop at the needle - but be careful

that you do not lose the yarn in your hand.

That's the first chain stitch.
Add more stitches in the same way.

Place the yarn into your palm.

Put the needles through the first loop,

through the second,

and pull the second loop back through the first loop.
Keep going until there are as many stitches as required.
Afterwards remove one of the needles carefully.
Now the stitches are not too tight and you can easily start knitting.
