What you need:

paper tube (e.g. from kitchen or toilet roll),

rice,

small stones,

beads or dried legumes,

adhesive tape,

cling film,

paper for decorating the rattle,

optionally napkins and glue for napkin technique,

brush

Cut two small pieces out of the cling film.

Put one of the pieces over one opening of the paper tube.

Tighten the film and fasten it onto the tube with adhesive tape. Fill some rice (or other material) into the tube and cover the other opening with cling film, too.

Glue paper to the rattle, e.g. transparent paper (e.g. coloured cellophane or parchment/greaseproof/wax paper) or crepe paper. But you can also use simple paper and draw small motifs onto it.

As an alternative, you can also decorate the rattle with napkin technique.

Apply glue for napkin technique to the tube. Separate the layers of a napkin. First, glue only one layer to the tube. Apply glue to the tube again.
Let the glue dry. Then apply a second layer of the napkin.

Tip: If you fill the rattle with different materials,

you will also get different sounds.
