What you need:
empty walnut shells,
glue,
paint,
string
Crack the nuts carefully so that both halves remain complete.
Remove the nuts and glue the nutshells together again.
Paint the nutshells and let the paint dry.
 
Stick a piece of string to the upper end of the nutshell.
Now you can use the walnuts as decoration,
e.g. for hanging on the Christmas tree.
